Welcome to our class! My name is Alyce Hartwig. I have been working and teaching in Manatee County since 1994 as a Special Areas Technology teacher, a Technology Site Coordinator, and as a Media Specialist. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from USF in December 2012. I began teaching the following August. I have taught fourth grade, second grade, and fifth grade. As a teacher, I have realized that I have three passions, curriculum, reading, and technology. These areas reflect what I do in my classroom. I believe that with my own understanding of the core curriculum and an emphasis reading will enable my students to excel in all realms of learning. Technology can be used to enhance and reinforce the curriculum being taught in the classroom and prepare my students for the 21st century skills needed for their future.
I grew up in Chicago and Park Forest both located in Illinois. I graduated from Rich Central High School and attended Illinois State University. I met husband there and we have been married for 40 years. I moved to Bradenton, Florida in 1980 with my husband, Greg and our son. We went to have four children who all attended Manatee county schools and presently reside in Manatee County. I live in Myakka City and love living on the west coast of Florida. I also have ten grandchildren. I am very blessed.
Our family enjoys getting together and going boating, fishing and pretty much any type of water activity. I love reading any type of books. I also enjoy using technology and learning the latest technology trends and gadgets. I love to sew, doing upholstery and enjoy doing many other types of crafts. I also enjoy getting together with friends and family to play games and cards.
I am so excited to meet my students and their families and start sharing this 5th grade year with them.
